Audrey Beck completed her Ph.D. in sociology with specializations in demography and stratification from Duke University in 2007. Her dissertation focused on the ecological determinants of spousal choice while other research focused on peer influence and racial disparities in educational outcomes. Following graduation, she was a postdoctoral fellow in the Office of Population Research and Center for Research on Child Wellbeing at Princeton University. With Sara McLanahan, she examined parenting practices, coparenting and child’s school readiness with a specific focus on nonmarital births. Other work, with Marta Tienda, examined the living arrangements of migrant youth across six developed countries as well as how age at arrival impacted a series of educational and social outcomes. Currently, she is a postdoctoral research associate, working with Brian Finch, in the Center for Health Equity Research and Policy and a lecturer in the Department of Sociology. She uses demographic methods and population data to understand race, ethnic and nativity disparities in health and wellbeing. Currently, her research examines how cohort variation in early life conditions, such as infectious disease exposure, relative deprivation and macroeconomic conditions, improve our understanding of the marked inequalities in health trends in the United States.
